Why Would Anyone Have a Managed IT Service Contract? Bottom line… Because it’s a WIN-WIN. Fixed fee allows ECMSI to make appropriate changes when needed without having to worry about labor costs. We monitor many aspects of a network and work hard as a team to keep our customers safe, secure and up and running. With our network monitoring system, there are times we need to perform tasks as to prevent customers from experiencing downtime. That’s the point of monitoring your system. Under the traditional break fix philosophy, the attitude was “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it”. However, due to the fact the technology is the backbone for productivity for all organizations; this is not the right philosophy for keeping a company safe, secure and productive. The cost of almost any Managed Service contract is less than the cost of preventive downtime a company may have. Even though downtime at times is difficult to put a cost on, it is worth any organization to take a closer look. To quantify downtime, there are two primary factors: productivity losses and business losses. Productivity losses affect individual or workgroup productivity, while business losses affect transactions or cause customer losses. Calculating both reveals wasted expenses and lost revenue. Downtime usually leads to a cascade of related costs. Work with your financial team to identify all such service costs incurred during or after a previous outage. Then, divide the total of these costs by the total number of hours the systems were down to determine the cost per hour. The calculation of downtime varies amongst companies. When considering all factors, the potential loss from critical system failure may be a shock the first time you calculate it.
